Attention Bowlers!
A Facebook post yesterday caused a little confusion around the upcoming doubles tournament at East Providence and, specifically, the ability of Paul and Rich to defend their title for a third time. In the past, we had a rule that allowed teams to defend only once. However, in researching the original intent when passed, the rule intended to allow multiple title defenses. The rule, as written, did not reflect the spirit of this intent.
In response to a fair question that was raised, the Board engaged in an investigation over the last 24 hours and, after much deliberation, decided to update the tournament rule in question to match both the intent and enforcement of this rule.
For additional reference, over the last several years, NEBA has allowed teams to continue to defend their titles at the same event multiple times if they continue to win. This has occurred recently both in the trios and doubles events.
