Bill Webb Wins Title # 20, Capturing the win at the Yankee Lanes Manchester Senior Open.
As we ventured up to Jeff Barden’s Yankee Lanes in Manchester, NH, for NEBA Tournament # 1002, The Yankee Lanes Manchester Senior Open, we want to thank everyone who attended this Senior Event. We had 47 participants, with 12 making the match-play finals this afternoon.
As you know, Bill Webb picks up title # 20 among a very talented group of bowlers making the top 12.
Bill qualified 7th on the squad at +160, where we saw the High Qualifier Chris Monroy posted an excellent set for +223 for the five qualifying games, and we saw the cut to make match-play at +133.
We took 12 bowlers into match-play, where the top 4 had a one-round bye. This sets up as Bill Webb defeated NEBA Hall of Famer Russ Michaud 225 to 207 in the first round to position Bill to bowl the number 2 seed, Stephen Dale, Jr. Bill continued to be on a roll, defeating Stephen 235 to 207 to move Bill into the semi-final match to face the number 3 seed, Greg Griebel. While Greg bowled an excellent 237, that was no match for Bill’s 266 to advance him to the final game to meet his good friend and strong competitor qualifying 12th, Chris Forry. The final match came down to the 10th frame; Bill finished up with a 212, getting up in the 10th frame; Chris had 184 in the 9th frame, needing a double and nine drop for the win; Chris tossed two perfect shots with all ten pins going into the pit, as Chris was looking for another perfect shot, however, as the ball checked early and went thru the nose leaving a Greek Church giving Chris 209 and Bill Webb Title # 20.
Thank you to everyone who participated; we also would like to thank our hosts, Jeff Barden and Yankee Lanes in Manchester, NH, for hosting us and adding $1,500 to the prize fund.
On to our next event on October 1, 2023, for the NEBA Master’s event to be hosted at AMF Auburn Lanes in Auburn, MA. This event is a one-squad special format as this is the Master’s Event presented by DJ’s Pro Shop, and we have $3,500 in added monies to the prize fund courtesy of Tony & Sue Reynaud, Roger Baral, and Bloomfield Electric.
